Bieszczady National Park
The park boundaries encircle the highest part of the Western Bieszczady Mountains with its main peak of Mount Tarnica (1346 m above sea level).
Woodless, grass-covered ridges, called poloniny, are a distinctive feature of the mountains in this park.
These mountain meadows host a great number of rare, East Carpathian plant species.
Forests, mostly beech with some fir and sycamore stands, cover 87 percent of the park.
Bears, wolves, red deer, bison's, lynxes to mention a few mammals, and about 150 species of birds have found a haven here.
The park, together with the adjoining lands, has been incorporated into the "Eastern Carpathians" international biosphere reserve, straddling the region of the convergent borders of Poland, Slovakia, and Ukraine.
