- Location
- Szczawno Zdrój lies at 400-430 m above sea level, between the Wałbrzyskie
mountains and the hills of Wałbrzyskie Plateau, with a climate modified through the
influence of Wałbrzych. Mineral springs had been known and utilized here for a few centuries,
but it was not until 1601 that their therapeutic qualities were studied and described
for the first time. The first sanatorium was built in 1815, and two parks, Zdrojowy and
Szwedzki, covering 120 hectares, were established, with numerous exotic tree and shrub
species. The Spa House in Szczawno is one of the finest spa buildings in Poland.
- Treatment facilities
- sanatoriums and spa hospitals with 877 beds.
- Available therapy
- physiotherapy centres, pump-room.
- Attractions and cultural events
- The most prestigious events are held in the Spa
Theatre, which has a beautiful Rococo-style hall from 1860. Regular events include the
Henryk Wieniawski Music Festival (June), summer classical-guitar courses (August),
Balloon Fiesta, Kite Festival, and qualifying rounds for the World Cup in dressage.
- Tourism and sports
- outdoor pool, tennis courts, sports field, holidays on horseback,
horseback rides and riding lessons at the Dworzysko centre. It is worth seeing Książ
Castle, from the 13th century, and the Lubiechów Palm House from 1911, a hothouse
growing many rare and exotic plants. Nearby, in an old quarry, is the picturesque
Lake Daisy.
