Major tourist attraction
- Gothic Teutonic Knights’ castle, where knights’ tournaments are organised.
-
The teutonic Knights build a castle in Gniew in the 13th century. Three centuries later Jan Sobieski, who would later
become king of Poland and defeat the Turks at Vienna in 1683, lived here as the local starosta, or sheriff. The ruined
castle has been under renovation for the last several years. Today it houses a hotel and a restaurant. In summer famous
knights' tournaments, in which participants wear medieval garb and armor, take place near the castle on a regular basis.
