Karkonosze National Park
The park encircles the upper reaches of the Karkonosze Mountains with their highest peak, Mount Sniezka (1602 m above sea level).
Carefully protected are the most valuable nature refuges and the most picturesque landscapes of the Karkonosze, which include the rocky zone with post-glacial hollows, mountain lakes, and multiple rock formation.
The slopes are mainly covered with spruce, mixed with beech, sycamore and linden.
The upper parts are dominated by dwarf pine.
High moors with numerous postglacial plant species cover the vast plateaus situated at the height of 1,200 m. above sea level.
A great number of protected endemic and alpine plants occupy the uppermost nature zone of the Karkonosze.
In addition to the typical forest wildlife, the Karkonosze Mountains habitat hosts the mouflon, a species brought over from the island of Corsica.
