POZNAŃ – A CITY OF TRADE FAIRS, HISTORIC BUILDINGS AND MUSIC

Poznań, with a population of 600,000, is conveniently located and accessible by rail or air from any corner of Europe. Poznań is also situated on the Paris-Moscow route, which crosses half the continent. After Warsaw, it is the most vigorously developing city in Poland. Many multinational corporations have set up subsidiaries and factories in the city, and the number of university-level schools is growing.

Visitors will have no problem getting a delicious meal, using an Internet cafe, taking out cash from an ATM or communicating in a foreign language with the local inhabitants. Poznań is a large university city, full of young people, with more than 100,000 students attending over a dozen universities.

GIFTS AND SOUVENIRS

Popular gifts include small figurines of the Poznań billy goats from the Town Hall or of Bamberka. The distinctive figure of Bamberka, symbolizing the settlers from Bamberg brought to the countryside near Poznań in the 18th century after an epidemic that decimated the city, stands at the back of the Town Hall.

MUNICIPAL TRANSPORTATION

Municipal transportation in Poznań is quite comfortable. The city centre is serviced by tramways, and the rest of the city by tramways and buses. In tramways the price of the fare depends on how long the ride is, and the bus transportation works on the time and distance principle. There are plenty of taxis waiting at taxi stands, but it is most convenient to order them by phone – the drive to the customer is free (telephone numbers of reliable taxi services are: 821 62 16, 822 23 33, 821 92 19, 919). Taxis can be ordered free of charge at the newsstands at Poznań Główny railway station.
