In the Prądnik River valley, among the sharp rocks of today's Ocjowski National Park, King Kazimierz the Great built his Castle. It was said of this king that he "found Poland build of wood and left it built of brick.". In the second half of the 16th century, the castle was converted into the residence of the Szafraniec magnate family. The castle includes a Gothic section and a Renaissance section. Today it houses a museum of European art, a branch of the State Art Collections at Wawel Castle in Cracow.
